West Whiteland Township initially partnered with StrategicLink to assist with the management of its longtime established Internet presence. The Township would draft their updates and forward the modifications to StrategicLink. StrategicLink representatives would then post the content, making adjustments to the format when necessary. It quickly became apparent that the frequent updates were time consuming despite their often simple nature. This, coupled with the site’s expansive content and general need for a new visual presentation, motivated the Township to move forward with the redesign of their existing Internet presence.
The Township elected to move forward with constructing their new site using Microsoft’s Windows SharePoint Services. With SharePoint’s ease of use, the Township could easily adopt the responsibility of maintaining the site’s content and streamline the process. A new structure coupled with SharePoint’s built in search functionality would empower Township residents with the ability to quickly locate information. The infrastructure required to host the Internet site internally would provide the foundation of future initiatives, such as a Township Intranet and Extranet.
StrategicLink worked with Township representatives to restructure the navigation of the site and establish a new graphic design. SharePoint features and functionality were appropriately paired with site content. The existing content was migrated into the appropriate repositories and after being thoroughly reviewed by Township representatives, the site was launched on January 1, 2009. Almost immediately, the Township began to receive praise from its residents.
